This is an excitingly original and unique script, with a premise that is as fresh as it is massive in scope. Evocative imagery leaps from the page, bringing to the life the inventive immersion technology and the mind-bending visuals of the 5th dimension. This is a dense world with an almost overwhelming number of concepts to introduce, but the script is so effective at slowly pulling back the layers that the reader is rarely confused. The episodes’ structure is effective and efficient, with the twin investigations into Karen and Arianne’s deaths serving as conduits for exposition while moving the story forward. The episode ultimately asks more questions than it answers and sets up a number of potential storylines, giving the sense that there’s a massive world here to explore.
Vera draws the reader in and leaves them eager to learn more about its fascinating world, which is riddled with mysteries that feel ripe for exploration in an on-going series. Its balance of mystery, action, and character drama make it a great fit for premium cable.
